Buncombe County's primary provider of crisis services to victims of domestic violence and their children. Services include a 24-hour crisis line, emergency shelter, individual and group counseling, court advocacy, crisis stabilization, and prevention education for professionals, community leaders, and groups considered to be ?at risk? of domestic violence.

A non-profit crisis intervention agency which serves all victims of sexual violence in Buncombe and Madison Counties. They provide hospital and court accompaniment, advocacy and counseling to victims of rape and sexual assault and to their family and friends, as well as offering community education programs to local schools, businesses and organizations.

Educate and empower children to recognize, resist, and report abuse, reaching children in Buncombe County in Kindergarten through fourth grade. Services provided are psychological counseling to abused children, their siblings and non-offending parents as well as prevention education in the public schools and parenting classes.

The N.C. Council for Women and Domestic Violence Commission is an advocacy agency within the North Carolina Department of Administration. The Commission advises the Governor, the legislature, and the state departments. Information is available about abuser treatment programs, sexual harassment, workplace violence, displaced homemakers, domestic violence and sexual assault.

Women at Risk

WCCJ/Women At Risk helps individuals break the cycle of abuse and wrong choices that lead to criminal activity. With almost 90% of graduates successfully completing probation and staying out of jail, Women At Risk is a proven treatment alternative to incarceration. They offer mental health and substance treatment, case management, court advocacy and referrals.

Services provided are Work First Funds, Food Stamps, Medicaid, Social Services, Child Protection Services and Adult Protection Services.

The Mediation Center
